Christina (Stina) Mallet (b. Seattle) is a painter and multi-passionate creative based in Surrey, U.K. after more than a decade living abroad, including Berlin. Her work, spanning figurative and abstract painting, sculpture, and ceramics, is fixated on mortality and impermanence. She makes strange, ceremonial, and often funny paintings rooted in folk-devotional traditions: Catholic iconography, retablos, and ex-votos, approached as an outsider to the faith.

A surreal, invented world recurs across her work, often through a signature blue-skinned figure who turns ordinary domestic moments into myth. A decade as a black-and-white portrait photographer led her into collage, then painting, sculpture, and ceramics, which she works across today.

That world has surfaced publicly in Rituals of Defiance, her section of the three-person show Obloquy at Hošek Contemporary in Berlin, and in Witnessed by Berlin, a retrospective at Studio L41 of the work she made during her years there.
